Rev Up Your Reading is a month long summer school program serving children from 1st though 6th grade who would benefit from systematic, multi-sensory, direct instruction to support their academic growth. Rev Up Your Reading provides daily, individual Orton-Gillingham tutoring in reading, writing, and spelling and small-group math instruction. A class in expository writing is available separately following the tutoring.
Our skilled staff helps students become excited about school by meeting each child at their level, developing their confidence by remediating lacking skills and helping them discover the possibilities within each subject beyond the standard curriculum. Since Orton-Gillingham tutoring is individualized each student is allowed to progress at his or her own pace.
A positive, research-based approach is emphasized and integrated throughout the program. Students are screened for appropriateness and skill-level prior to admittance and are post-tested at the end of the program. Parents receive a report of the results in August.
A team of skilled professionals and advanced interns provides instruction. All instruction is supervised, reviewed, and approved by education specialists led by Fellows of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators.
The program is limited to 20 students. The student/teacher ratio is no more than 1:10 in small group classes, with instructional aides providing a 1:3 ratio.
