The Blosser Center's Orton-Gillingham Training prepares teachers to teach
reading, writing and spelling to the most reading impaired students. Lecture/
demonstration classes are combined with up to two years of professional
support.

How long is the training?
Lecture/demonstration classes over one year are combined with up to two years of professional support.- The basic six-day intensive class is held in the summer.
- The intermediate class and intial practicum are spread over one school year.
- The second practicum can be completed either in the summer or over another school year.
How much professional support is included?
- We believe that a high level of professional support is the key to success.
- Blosser Center staff works closely with each trainee as they tutor two students.
- 10 observations/consultations insure that every trainee learns to modify the Orton-Gillingham sequence to match the needs of each student.
What is the text?
- We provide a user-friendly manual that translates the concepts and procedures of Orton-Gillingham into plain English, (Unlocking the Power of Print: A Tutor Manual).
- A versatile lesson plan helps beginners learn to write complete, multisensory lessons.
- A clear chart of the scope and sequence facilitates record keeping.
- Handy word lists are provided for each concept.
- This manual was developed by Dorothy Blosser Whitehead in the 1970's to train volunteer tutors for Beaverton Public Schools. It is now used around the world.
- Advanced trainees also use The Gillingham Manual.
